Tokyo Ghoul:re Chapter 54: Born Child

He’s back.

_re 54 Img004

Is it wrong that I’m already starting to miss Haise? A part of me is really loving the new Kaneki (it’s time to call him Kaneki again, and not Haise) but on the other hand, his brutality and ruthlessness feels really unsettling. It doesn’t help that his hair is blacker than it’s ever been since his pre-Aogiri days, and yet the Kaneki we see now is nothing like who he was at the start of the story. Yes, I’ve read the theories about him being red-haired because of his skull being split open, and I think they’re all absolutely ridiculous. I accept that there may be some dried blood in his hair, but it’s not going to make him a redhead all of a sudden. Most importantly, red is an awful hair colour for Kaneki. And if you think Ishida tweeting some poems counts as foreshadowing, then the original art he posted of Rize some time ago should have meant an appearance for Rize on top of Lunatic Eclipse by now. I still miss Rize, every chapter. Maybe one day.

_re 54 Img003

How much does Kaneki remember? And more importantly, will his current state last? The last thing we want is for him to get knocked out and wake up as Haise. He recognizes Tsukiyama, at least, and we now know that he has known about Eto being the One-Eyed King for a long time now. But his actions don’t quite match up with how we’d expect Kaneki to react to them both, even though he’s lucid – he’s stabbed Tsukiyama for some reason (hopefully to keep him out of the battle, but we don’t know that for sure) and he’s out to kill Eto despite his promise to Yoshimura. I mean, he is admittedly very angry, and if anything his anger is clouding his mind a great deal at the moment – his beatdown of Kanae was fucking savage. Will Kanae ever be the same again? You could feel the sheer force he used to stab the metal pipe through poor Kanae’s eye, no doubt an effective weak spot he learned first-hand from Arima – and of course, he’s gotten his revenge for the arm and has gifted one of Kanae’s to Eto. I think Eto looks pleased – Eto doesn’t really seem to care about Kanae now that she’s achieved her objective. I now understand why she went to all the trouble of breaking her to turn her into an effective killing machine, even though Kanae was already about to attack Haise out of jealousy – because Kanae wasn’t strong enough. I have no idea why Eto didn’t attack Haise herself, but her objective was to wake him up using Kanae. So when he was still Haise, Eto came down and told Kanae to keep going – but when he woke up as Kaneki and trashed Kanae, Eto lost all interest in her. Are we going to see Eto vs Kaneki? She keeps talking about who’s stronger between Kaneki and Arima, so I do wonder if she’s out to test his strength or something.

_re 54 Img001

If Kaneki manages to subdue or escape Eto, and that’s a big if, the next issue is what the hell he’s going to do about the CCG. He will probably want to do something about Hinami, but beyond that it’s hard to say how he’d react to the Quinx or people like Akira or Arima. There will be some who will start noticing the change, so hopefully he just gets as many of his friends out from Cochlea as he can before ditching CCG.

Speaking of the Quinx, is Noro kill? If he’s talking (for the first time, too) about seeing Eto on the other side, I guess he really is. It was also odd that he seemed to express some sort of affection for Eto, despite the implication that she was his torturer.Urie has moved up yet another rung on the ladder of character development – it seems like every time the Quinx are in a life-threatening situation, his good side seems to emerge. Noro felt like a stronger opponent than he ended up being, although that may just be me overestimating the power levels of the Qs. All the other chapters featuring Noro had him portrayed as an insta-regen monster, and all of a sudden Shirazu and Urie manage to deal with him after exerting themselves. Feels a bit weird.

Tokimeki Memorial Girl’s Side 3rd Story: [Seiji Shitara Route]

” Go away, You’re distracting me”

Capture 4

Game : Tokimeki Memorial Girl’s Side 3rd Story

Support: PSP/DS

You can also play the game on a PSP or DS emulator since the English Rom is available if you know where to search. I don’t own a PSP because I’m broke as hell, so I download the emulator and played the game this way. The patch is really well done and full voiced. The only dark point: you can’t really give a long name to your heroine. I tried to go with Charibo, but for some reason they didn’t have the “Bo” character so I ended up with Chari. Meh, that’ll do…

? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?

Tokimeki Memorial Girl’s Side 3rd Story was one of my first Otome game ever, and a logical continuation of my fan-girl way of life.
This game is the third Opus of the Tokimeki Memorial Girl’s Side series. It also takes place at school for a length of 3 years starting in April. This game is a dating simulation game where you’re are playing as an average Japanese teenage girl, experiencing High school love. In reality, it consists in harassing a guy you’ve just met to go out with you until he falls in love with you. And then playing dumb and acting surprised when he says that he loves you. OH ! RUKA-KUN ? YOU LOVE ME ? OH ! I’M SURPRISED, I didn’t expected that. It’s not like we’ve been dating for 3 years or whatever…? ??? ?

Seiji Shitara wasn’t the first guy that I decided to go after. My first Tokimeki guy was Ruka, just because he was the main guy and because I wasn’t smart enough to use internet to check how to unlock the other guys. Also, everything in this game was screaming ” Go for Ruka”… So, as an Otome noob, I went for Ruka first. When I was finally able to choose, fully aware of all my options, I choose Seiji Shitara. Why ? Well, obviously not because he’s a fucking genius and Tsundere guy… PFFFT, that’s totally not the reason AHAHAHA.

capture 3

Ok there’s no point playing dumb with you, you can see clear right through me

I can’t help it, Tsunderes are my weakness. And my second weakness is artistic’s guys. Whenever there’s an artistic guy, I can’t control my finger and I press like. It’s automatic. Painter, Musician, Singer, Actor . I like, I double Like, I subscribe and I share. So yeah, a good looking pianist Tsundere who is your Senpai ?

Count me the Hell in ??’?`??

Also, I’ve always wanted to date famous people in games. He looks like Beethoven. Not the dog, the compositor ( I’m not that desperate, thank you). I confess that I would have preferred Ryan Gosling or Henry Cavill but Beethoven will do.

M’ Lady, are you ready to fall in love ?

? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?

You first meet Seiji-senpai by practicing your Art command. After school, the Heroine hears piano coming from a room and decides to take a peek. It’s freaking Seiji-Senpai who is practicing. He sees the heroine and decides to suddenly stop playing. He acts all Tsundere with her and leaves. The second time that I met him was after school when I asked him to go home with Chari. His answer was clear: “NO”

At this point my mind was set.

So you want to play the not interested Tsundere with me Seiji? We’ll see… I will harass you to go out with Chari until you fall in love with her ! Don’t underestimate me, I lost 150 kilos to win the heart of a guy before and I also made Hairy-Samurais with self-control issues fall in love with me. I dealt with way more stronger than you BEETHOVEN!??o?o??

So Is Seiji’s route good ?

Well, my answer would be Yes, but …

? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?

Capture 1

I had lots of expectations for Seiji’s route. That’s why I was disappointed. I thought that because he’s rich and talented there will be much more drama. Like, his father was disapproving our relation or that he would have been forced to marry to a rich woman but quit everything because his in love with me.That he would be taking the heroine to fancy restaurants and exciting trips all around the world. But yeah no. Well, he does take you to his concerts and even to a fancy reception but that’s it.

When I think of it, it’s just the way the game is build. This is a high school love simulator. I shouldn’t have expected something else. With that in mind I began to like his route for what it is. A nice little love story with a pianist , nothing else. So do not expect Arima Kousei‘s kind of sad background with piano. Seiji ‘s sad relationship with piano is less dramatic but still interesting in my opinion. He basically ran away from piano for a certain time because he was afraid to lose against someone in an contest. He’s actually really insecure about his talent and wonders what should he be doing in the future. Everything that he does is related to piano but he doesn’t seems to enjoy this fact. Yeah, he’s a pretty insecure guy in reality. It’s okay you can cry on Chari’s shoulder Seiji-senpai, I don’t mind fragile guys ? ??? ?

Capture 2

Of course he’s still rich and because of game stereotypes, he doesn’t know anything about real world stuff, such as sending emails.

You live in an rich mansion, Seiji, not in a cave, get your things together ? ? ? ? ?

So he’s a bit awkward with everyday’s stuff. He’s also the kind of guy who thinks he knows everything but when you dig a little bit deeper you realize that he doesn’t know shit. When you ask him what does he think of love his answer his ” It’s a waste of time”. As the heroine continues to question him about his bullshit answer he starts to realize that actually, he doesn’t know why he said that and that he doesn’t know a single thing about love.

But he’s still a nice Tsundere, with A LOT OF BLUSHING. After harassing him for one year, he finally liked Chari enough to start harassing her to go out with him. He’s a nice guy who cares about the heroine and it’s pretty easy to mess with him since he doesn’t really admit that he likes you. Or actually he does, but not intentionally. Aaah Tsunderes… I think his CG are nice, not wonderful but nice. Most of them are funny. Especially the one, when, in order to attend your school Festival, he dresses up with only a scarf and glasses thinking that no one will recognize him. Yeah, he’s a bit out of space. But that’s why we like him ???????

Regarding dating him, during the first year I had to throw away fun dating spots like the Amusement Park, the Karaoke or the gaming station because he was rejecting me all the time. So I opted for the Botanical garden, the Museum and the park. Pretty exciting uh ? It’s like doing field trips with your dad on a Sunday when you can be at home, relaxing, but HELL NO! Daddy has decided that today we will be going to the Art and Crafts’s Museum.

I had a though childhood okay ? ?; o`?o’?

Anyway, when he likes you enough you can invite him to different places. At this point he’s even the one acting like a cray fan girl asking you out every two weeks. He might also invite you to his place (a freaking mansion with guess what ? A piano in his bedroom). There’s not any big differences with the basic dates spots but you can get an extra scene in his house. Because I was playing in the ” Little Devil Mode”, Chari asked him where was his bedroom and she started talking about his bed and stuff. Well, that obviously makes him blush and he goes all awkward with the situation. Of course, the heroine making references to how big his bed is and how comfortable it must be was intended. As I said, It’s pretty fun to mess with him.

Capture 5

As for the ending, I don’t know if I didn’t get the best one because I messed up a bit ( by making a love triangle with the Student council’s president because I was bored and really wanted Drama). But my ending was MEH.

Seiji confesses his love and asks you to go to Paris with him but the heroine says no. WHY ?! WHY CHARI ?! at your place I would have been ” HELL YEAH ! LET’S GO TO PARIS! YOLOOO” but no, she prefers to stay in Japan because she’s a pussy… Therefore, they can’t see each other a lot, sometimes it’s difficult but she hopes that everything will end up well….

WOW, that’s so realistic that it’s sad. As far as I know, in every other route the ending was like ” And we are super in love now yeah ! “. But yeah, Seiji’s ending might be the most realistic one. I’m not saying that it’s bad, it’s just different and kind of sad in a way. I think this ending was like Seiji’s whole route: Realistic. It’s kind of surprising though. When I first finished his route I was really pissed off. I just spent so many hours to get this bitter sweet ending ?! But giving it a second thought, I’m now okay with that.

So, should you play Seiji’s Route ? Well, his route is nice and if you like that type of character you should go for him. But don’t expect an heart breaking story, his route is decent. Nothing else.

? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?

I have an idea to make the whole thing a lot better

Yeah it’s Levi …

Now we’re talking ?o?o??

Tokyo Ghoul:re Chapter 53: Dream

“Goodnight, Haise. I’ve had enough of dreaming.”

_re 53 Img005

Is it happening? I think it’s happening.

But before that, a couple of thoughts on Eto and Ui. Firstly, Eto – what exactly are her feelings towards Haise? What exactly is she after with regards to him? All we know is that she’s interested in him, but what is her overall aim? It’s really hard to tell what she thinks of him or what her endgame is – after all this time they finally meet as ghouls and not humans, and yet all she’s done is hit him once and instruct Kanae to continue fighting him. I thought she stepped in because she thought Kanae wasn’t doing her job properly?

re Img011

As for Ui, I was pretty confused by the drinking game analogy. I read that short memo from MS about how reciting the names of train station stops is some sort of drinking game, but why was Ui doing it whilst casually walking through Lunatic Eclipse? Is it some sort of OCD? It seemed like he was reciting it, realized he made a mistake and started over again – over and over until it covered entire panels on the page. Is it his way of coping with all the blood and death around him or something? What about his relationship with the late Princess Hairu? And perhaps most importantly, why was he trusting enough to not suspect Furuta, who’s supposedly much weaker than both Hairu and Kijima and yet was the only one left alive?

_re 53 Img001

I can’t believe Kaneki has wanted to die this entire time. I don’t know if it means he’s suicidal, because that implies he’d take active steps by himself to bring about his own death, but from his words this chapter it feels like he definitely wouldn’t mind dying if that’s the way it has to be – which is honestly a really, really tragic take on life. If child Kaneki represents the subconscious of both Kaneki Ken and Sasaki Haise, then this is probably an accurate reflection of how he truly feels. It was a confusing chapter in general, not least of all because of the discussion between Haise and his inner Kaneki, but this is my take on it. Kaneki has wanted to die, all this time. He’s gone through a fuckton of suffering, and tragically he wasn’t a stranger to it before he became a ghoul – because he was abused by his mother when he was a child. What the actual fuck? Wasn’t it his aunt who ruined and indirectly drove his ‘hard-working’ and overworked mother to death? Even when Kaneki took Rize on a tour of his memories, his mother was portrayed as a victim all this time. Of course, there is no way Ishida didn’t plan this, just like every other god damn genius plot twist – look at this, it’s the last time Kaneki spoke to his subconscious about his mother.

Fucking Ishida. Kaneki was telling a lie back then, we all knew that much. But back then, I’m sure all of us interpreted the lie as being his way of hiding how she was being slowly overworked to death. How he was hiding the real circumstances behind his family situation. But no, that wasn’t it. That wasn’t it at all. He was hiding the fact that he was being fucking beaten at home.

As a side note, today is the world day for the prevention of abuse for children.

_re 53 Img004

At any rate, he’s wanted to die for some time now. But he wants to die in style. A precondition exists for his death. And the fight against Arima was the best chance he had to do that. But he messed up, and ended up staying alive as a pseudo-quinque for this strange, socially awkward CCG member. As he has spent an entire lifetime not being loved (I swear to god, if his friendship with Hide turned out to be fake this entire time, this fanbase will probably cry tears of blood) his ‘Haise’ persona was a ‘dream’ which he used to give himself a chance to be loved by the people around him. And along the way, he ended up liking it – he ‘mistakenly began to once again desire’ despite having previously lost the will to live. But Haise knows he was nothing more than a sweet, temporary dream. And if he’ll die to Kanae and Eto like this, it’s frankly just as shitty a death as Hairu’s – there’s no point to a death without style like this. So Kaneki has had enough of dreaming. If he’s going to die at this rate, and in this way, he’d rather stop dreaming and fight back. He’s had enough of dreaming. It’s time for ‘Sasaki Haise’ to go to sleep. It’s time for Kaneki Ken to wake up.

Tokyo Ghoul:re Chapter 52: Eve

Surely Eve ate that apple because she wanted to love a man.

re 52 3

“For no reason at all, I was overcome by a profound sadness.
And I remembered those of a bloodline I once knew.
‘My dear lost one…'”

re 52 4

Fucking poetic. This was an amazing chapter.

So Kanae is actually a girl? Are you serious, Ishida? I mean, I don’t really mind either way, I was never particularly invested in Kanae, but… wow. Are we supposed to look back for some subtle foreshadowing now? I mean, it does explain a lot of stuff – the jealousy she (wow, that felt weird to type) felt towards Haise, and the now very real possibility that she is in love with Tsukiyama, instead of just having a zealous admiration or adoration towards him like I’d thought before. And her (I really need some time to get used to this) women’s veil during the auction now makes sense. ‘Kanae’ was also a girl’s name from the very beginning. Eto even offered her a bite of her apple, and the title of the chapter was ‘Eve’. Come to think of it, ‘Tooru’ is a gender neutral name too, isn’t it? Ishida strikes again.

I swear, sometimes it feels like this is just one massive game for Ishida, and he’s enjoying the hell out of himself. We have gender disassociation, transgender and cross-dressing over various characters from Kanae and Mutsuki to Big Madam and Nico – at this point, :re is like a gold standard for LGBT+ inclusiveness and diversity. Who’d have thought, huh?

re 52 6

I also feel extremely sorry for every single fujoshi out there, who until this chapter shipped Kanae x Tsukiyama. I offer you my condolences (it’s also really funny that this is how this ship went down, heh). I guess if you were desperate, you’d try to argue she isn’t a girl – but it’s pretty clear, I think, especially after Eto said ‘woman’ at the end of their word association game and Kanae responded with ‘woman’. During the torture sessions she would have to have been stripped for the kagune stabbing, so that’s where she found out I guess. I didn’t really understand that scene with Matsumae (bless her, still with blacked-out eyes even in her flashbacks) finding out – was it a period? If this was a romcom, Tsukiyama would be the oblivious main love interest who is so close yet so far to the main character. And for Kanae, senpai noticed her too late ;_;

I would now like to take the time to call out Ishida on adding to his never-ending list of parallels – Chapter 52 of the original manga was when Kaneki was taken by Aogiri to be tortured. Now, in Chapter 52 of :re, we have Eto come to presumably take Haise away in person, after Kanae failed to do her job properly in dealing with Haise. Why is Eto such a badass? I hate her sometimes, but I also love her – she fell out of the sky quoting her own book in fucking kakuja form. If there really is a torture scene featuring Eto and Haise, I hope some lines from her books are involved. It’ll be as poetic as the final fight with Arima in V14.

re 52 1

Actually, speaking of Arima – what the fuck? I didn’t know he tortured Haise? Is this just his imagination, or did Arima actually tell this to him in a training session? “You must, Haise. Do your job. Kill. Just like I do. You are my quinque. Unless, Haise… would you like to die again?” Is he talking to Kaneki or Haise? It sounds like it’s a fusion of the two or something. And Touka thought he was happy with the CCG, holy shit. What are they doing to him? Are there things he went through with the CCG that they’ve made him forget about?

re 52 7
